Bella is expecting her 2nd litter mid May 2009. Bella has had a unique life experience for a beagle. Bella was born in April of 2007 and purchased by a lady in Hong Hong. Yes! Hong Kong, China. In order to import Bella into Hong Kong she had to be at least 5 months of age and have a variety of shots and be microchipped. Finally everything was ready and Bella and another puppy (Harry) set off on their journey to Hong Kong. They left Shreveport, La and flew to Newark, NJ. After spending the night in a private kennel, they were returned to the airport to catch their international non-stop flight to Hong Kong. 17 hours later they arrived in Hong Kong. They were in great shape. And ready to explore Hong Kong.. as beagles do! Their new home in Hong Kong was very different from the ranch in Arkansas. Instead of 275 acres of woods and pastures, there was walkways and apartment elevators. Hong Kong has very little grass and is a major commercial center for the Far East. About a month after their arrival in Hong Kong, their owner emailed me distraught that she hadn't thought this process through. It was not possible to turn these little beagles loose to do beagle things. She was very upset that the beagles were not able to behave like beagles. She wanted to return them to Arkansas. Of course, I agreed to take them back. Upset about giving up the pups, she wanted to return them as quickly as possible so that she wouldn't get any more attached to them. More paperwork was done. Airline reservations booked. And within a week or so, Bella and Harry flew back into Shreveport, La. Waiting at the counter for them to be released, I wondered how they would be after their month vacation in HongKong with their 17 hour flight both ways. They put their crates up on the baggage scales and I stepped forward to peek in at them. I spoke to them and Bella immediately replied. Quietly barking and wagging her tail. Then Harry turned and saw me and came over wagging his tail. I loaded them into the backseat of my Dodge MegaCab and headed for the ranch in Arkansas. 2 hours later, they arrived home. None the worse for their experience. Hoping out of their crates and greeting all the farm dogs. What a tale they had to tell.
